Our commitment to Child Safety and Protection

What is cultural inclusion?

The Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) embeds cultural diversity and inclusion across its principles, practices, and outcomes, emphasising the importance of a child’s cultural and linguistic identity to their educational journey of “belonging, being and becoming”.

We proudly continue to play a crucial and active role in promoting principles of culturally inclusive education to ensure ALL children and families can actively participate and prosper in Australian society.

About Us

We are the oldest, most-experienced provider of Multicultural Inclusion Support for the Early Childhood Education Sector in NSW, with over 40 years of building knowledge, infrastructure, resources, training, and professional development on culturally responsive practice.

Since our beginnings in 1979, we have innovated to meet the changing needs of multicultural children, educators and Early Childhood Education and Care providers. Our mission, however, has remained the same: to create greater access, equity, and inclusion to education for multicultural children, families, and communities. This includes building the capacity of educators and the education sector in culturally inclusive practices and programming.

Underpinning all our innovative, unique service offerings is our proud cohort of Multicultural Inclusion Support Workers. Our workforce consists of trained inclusion specialists representing a breadth of different cultures and languages - including those of emerging communities. They can provide support in a variety of Early Education and Care settings..

Why Us?

Our story began more than 40 years ago as the first of its kind, a pioneering volunteer program with three bilingual women in the Ethnic Children’s Services Worker Program, supporting the inclusion of children from diverse backgrounds in Children’s Services. The value of our program was recognised almost immediately with the Department of Social Security funding the Casual Ethnic Workers Pool. Our reach expanded to include rural and regional NSW to meet the growing needs of emerging communities and refugee families and to establish the Aboriginal Casual Workers Pool.  We recruited consultants and created training modules and resources in areas of cultural competence and inclusive practices for educators to build the capacity of children’s services. Our success has been acknowledged internationally as one of the most effective models for inclusion and in 1997 UNESCO recognised our program as a Model of Best Practice in Early Childhood.
