Multicultural Services for Older Persons (Eastern Sydney)

For over a decade we have been providing various services to older persons in CALD communities that that are culturally and linguistically sensitive. We also work with services providers and government policy makers to ensure the achievement of equality of access, utilisation, quality of care and outcomes for CALD older persons.

Multicultural Support Services

Social support for CALD older people living at home. This includes individual support or linking individuals into various group activities.

Multicultural Access Projects

Support Commenwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) and Community Care Support Programme (CCSP) funded services and foster collaborations so that the sector is culturally and linguistically responsive to the needs of CALD older persons.

Multicultural Respite Service for Older Persons

 Multicultural centre-based and flexible respite service for CALD older persons and their carers in Sydney regions. A range of respite options are provided.

What is the Eastern Sydney Multicultural Access Project (ESMAP)?

The Eastern Sydney Multicultural Access Project (ESMAP) assists with building greater capacity within Home And Community Care (HACC) services to respond more effectively to the needs of Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.

It also provides Counselling/Support, Information and Advocacy services to frail, aged, people with disabilities and their carers from CALD background.

It is based in Mascot and covers the following Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Eastern Sydney: City of Sydney, Botany, Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra.

The main objectives of the project are to:

  •  Assist HACC funded services in providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services to service users from CALD background.
  •  Increase awareness, understanding and utilisation of HACC and HACC like services for potential and existing service users from CALD background.

What services do we provide?

The services provided include:

  • Supporting Home and Community Care (HACC) services to strengthen their capacity to achieve higher quality outcomes for CALD population through information, training, strategic advice and input into their policies
  • Outreaching CALD communities to provide advice, support and information on how to access HACC and related services
  • Increasing the number of CALD communities accessing HACC and HACC like services through referral to appropriate services
  • Providing advocacy and counselling as required
  • Identifying the needs of the CALD communities regarding access issues to HACC services and ensure that their needs are taken into consideration in the HACC planning process
  • Organising training on Cultural Awareness/Knowledge Session for staff members of HACC and HACC like services
